This website was set up by staff of the Institute for Sustainable Communities Ukraine Citizen Action Network. We wanted to experiment with different online tools which could help the citizens of Ukraine make better use of online government information.

We undertook the following steps:

1. Conducted a focus group with users of an IREX IATP center.
2. Used a social bookmarking tool called del.icio.us searched for and marked Ukraine government websites with descriptive tags.
3. Used Google Specialized Search Engine to develop a specialized search engine which only searches Ukraine government websites using the .ua.gov domain
4. Set up a wiki website using Dokuwiki to present the resources, websites we tagged and the search engine.

In September 2008 the website was announced and UCAN staff revisited the IATP center to present the resources and tools to the original focus group participants and other users of the IATP center. We hope these resources will help citizens to make better and more informed searches on government information, how to interact with government offices online and what additional tools they can use to become more technologically literate.
